I have searched my heart for the right words but I know nothing that I could possible write could ease your pain. I was/am a volunteer at MDA which is where our paths crossed several years ago. Upon meeting Ling, I knew there was something special about her. Even though it would be only be an occasional visit, I looked forward to those times. I was fascinated by her beautiful heart, her interesting life, her grace, her love of family and her love of life. She was simply an incredible woman and I grieve with you at her loss. May God wrap His arms around your family and ease the pain.

Scott, Suzie and I send our heartfelt condolences on Ling’s passing. We have never met anyone remotely like Ling. Her Positive Energy, Warmth, and Loving Nature are immediately evident when you meet and talk to Ling. Ling Lights Up A Room when She Enters....Her Smile Make You Feel Wonderful....Appreciated. Susie and I are Better for having Met Ling....We can learn much from how she interacted with everyone she met. Though we only knew Ling since 2014 , Ling Made us Feel We Were Very Special . Her Candle burns very brightly in our hearts and minds.
Jing Liu Jing Liu from Dallas
Ling can always bring smiles and warmness to the people surrounding her. She has great passion for life and everybody admires her intelligence, courage and toughness. Ling is also very warm-hearted and willing to help anyone who needs her. Her humors, her lectures, her moments encouraged a lot of people. She is such a bright, elegant, energetic, active, optimistic, and brave lady that you can not help to get closer to her and love her. We thought we could still have a chance to listen her stories about the mid-east countries, to follow her to do Ikebana, to read her moments of her life…. We are far from being ready for her farewell. Ling, with a broken heart with sorrow, we have to say good-bye to you. Ling, we love you and will miss you. R.I.P. Jing

I can't tell you how sorry I am to hear about Ling. What an amazing human being! Such courage and spirit to continue to live as she did right up until the very last weeks of her life. She managed to live and experience more than most people do in a lifetime. It is both exhilarating and humbling to see, not just the many places she traveled to, but the activities and responsibilities she still managed to participate in and maintain, all while remaining the very essence of elegance and grace. What a legacy for her son, Tyree. And what an inspiration to all of us, really, of a life well-lived.

Such an amazing spirit for the positive, an inspiration to all. The world is a little dimmer without her light.

Ling was amazing. She was one of the kindest people I have met and her beautiful smile unforgettable.

I want to forever remember Ling’s beautiful face, her confident smile, never ending arguments about politics and history! She’s an extraordinary woman who lives to her fullest! She’s one of my best friends who have shared so much joy, pain, and some turning points of our lives. She’s forever cherished and remembered by our classmates! She’s passionate and intelligent woman, hold truth to her bones. I will miss her dearly ❤️🙏! Dearest Ling, You have made differences to people’s life as a wife, mother, friend, professor, social activist, and many many more, you’ll be forever remembered 🙏

Dr. Ling Shiao was an excellent scholar and a great professor, as well as a fighter against illness. R.I.P dear Ling!

We are so sorrowful that our dear sister Ling has left us. We had been dreading this moment for quite some time, but always hopeful and praying for some miracle turnaround in Ling's condition. Now, we have to face the realization that she is not here with us anymore. Ling and I grew up from the same family. We shared a lot of life experience, joyful and sad. We encouraged and supported each other. Now with Ling’s passing, I feel that a part of me is also gone. I cannot stop missing her.   As an Anti-Cancer Star, Ling shows her brightness and optimism! Her determination and poise throughout her fight against this disease, from start to finish, should be an inspiration for anyone who might find themselves in hard times. Ling was such a prize person, so full of spirit! Her directness was always refreshing and positive, as well as her inquisitive and adventurous spirit. And such a wealth of knowledge she had, so broad and deep! Her eagerness to share her knowledge made her a natural as a teacher. Her passion for learning kept her moving ever forward to new horizons to the very end. Ling will be missed by all who had the good fortune to know her during her short life. But she will live forever in our hearts, where we shall cherish our memories of her as precious treasures. With gratitude and awe we acknowledge the stellar support Scott provided for Ling throughout her illness. She was so blessed to have him - the best possible husband - by her side! Ling was also so blessed to have her son, Tyee, and fortunate enough to be here long enough to watch and guide him into becoming a talented young man with a bright future before him. Our thoughts and prayers are with Scott and Tyee as they grieve for their loss, and ours. We pray that our dear sweet sister Ling now finds rest and comfort, free at last, with the hope that a glorious afterlife now awaits her, to step into with rejoicing!

We do not know each other very long, but it need not be. Your sincerity, positive encouraging words and wisdom like revealing light tarot shining perpetually on this earth with your image. You have gone to another side without the words like goodbye and take care but we know you said it to everybody. It is a SAD day but we know you do not want us to be SAD. You want us to continue and continue to build a better world and I hope we will. Rest in peace and you will be missed!

I got to know Professor Shiao through the social media group she created a couple of months ago, and was hoping to meet her in-person when the pandemic is over, without realizing she was fighting for her life since November... Knowing her life has touched so many others, I am quoting the lyrics of "Candle in the Wind 1997" to express my deepest condolence: "And it seems to me you lived your life Like a candle in the wind Never fading with the sunset When the rain set in And your footsteps will always fall here Along England's greenest hills Your candle's burned out long before Your legend ever will" RIP, Professor Shiao

Aunt Ling and her family gave me a lot of help and support during my stay in the States from 2014 to 2018. During this period I spend a wonderful and unforgettable time with Aunt Ling, Uncle Scott, and Tyee. It was, and will always be my most valuable memory. Aunt Ling lived with romance and optimism every day even when she got cancer, and her lifestyle influenced and encouraged every single person around her. The time I spend with her and her family made me feel warm and happy, just like at home. Dallas is my second hometown, and I will always miss Aunt Ling. I will come back to this website if I want to see her, even though I can't talk with her anymore. Love you, Aunt Ling!

My heart breaks with yours during this exceedingly sad time. Ling was such an inspiration to me as she lived so fully during a time when many would have rested. She was full of joy and lively stories, and her love for you Scott and Tyee was evident as she spoke of you both often. She became a very dear friend to me over the past 7 years, and taught me much about life, adventure, living in the moment, and friendship. I miss her more than words can express.

I am so sorry to hear this and feel so shocked. I was still thinking to see her coming to Houston again after the Pandemic and we can go to dinner together. I do not know what to say and just want to express my deepest condolence for you and your family loss. My heart goes with her and hope you and your family are doing well. If anything I can help, please let me know. Hope her rest well,

I've only met Ling just a few times and each one was educational. Thank you for always having a kind ear to listen to my peculiar view of the world. Seeing Scott and Ling for me is the truest testament of true love.

I've met Ling very few times and each one was inspiring and educational, from the sites we chose to visit or the places we chose to eat at, there was a little research done before hand. Meeting Scott and Ling together was the truest testament of pure love visible. Thank you for having a kind ear in hearing my version of the world, even if it was peculiar..
