I met Ling when she came to SMU for job interview. I had no doubt at all that she should get the offer. I was delighted when she accepted. I got to know her as scholar, teaching colleague and dear friend.Thanksgiving chez Ling with a totally motley once-a-year delight. I took over one course when the shadow first fell. I marveled at her determination, courage, determination to live to the full and always felt warmed by her radiant love for her family, which radiated around them. I also loved her superb cooking, Chinese and western. She brought light, intelligence, joy, and love to all the lives that touched hers. I rejoice that mine became one of them. Ling, xie xie
