Ling's passing is a tremendous blow for all of us. Our hearts go out to her husband, Scott, and her son, Tyee. Ling was a dear and loving friend, a great colleague, and a wonderful teacher/scholar. She joined the History Department in 2007 to teach Asian history, but she had to go on disability in 2017, some while after her original diagnosis. Throughout her illness she had many ups and downs; but, as Scott remarks below, she was a person of indomitable spirit. Indeed, she was, uniquely so. Virtually until to her very last weeks, she lived as full a life as her circumstances would allow. She was my friend.
